2013 BPLA July Update

July 11, 2013

Due to the discovery of zebra mussels on part of Cross Lake, on 7/12/13 the Department of Natural Resources put an invasive species warning sign on Big Pine’s public access.

Invasive Species Alert

Special Alert – Thursday, July 11, 2013
We have been advised by the DNR that a small number of adult zebra mussels have just been found in a single location on Cross Lake.

Further surveys are in progress to determine if they can be detected in other areas of Cross Lake or in other lakes on the chain.

Because boat travel takes place throughout the Chain, the DNR is erecting signage at all Public Accesses on the Whitefish Chain advising the presence of Zebra Mussels.

Therefore, the signage at any chain access indicating the presence of Zebra Mussels does not mean they have been detected in that particular lake. It means Zebra Mussels have been detected in a lake accessible by boat from that access (e.g. Cross Lake).

As soon as additional information is available we will post it on the website. We will also post a link to a soon to be published advisory from the DNR.

Information was found on WAPOA’s website. We will be checking in and updating our site with the latest information from the DNR.
